Application of GP

Let us dissect carl's argument to see how the enviroment of ACSIB has affected him.
ACS is known as an englishy school, therefore his english must be damn powerpack now.
So we have learnt recently about ethos, pathos and lagos. I have found out that he was employing all of that throughout the conversation!
What subtlety!

Let me show you the results of my extensive in dept analysis of the arguments.

Carl : but then i go back then i get beaten up or something how

Pathos. appealing to sympathy. the sympathy of getting beaten up when he returns.

carl : i have gd reason to think so. its not you, its other people.

Lagos. Logic. The logic that there are other people out there who wants to beat him up. Therefore, its a good reason not to come back.
Pathos. Sympathy. There is not just one person who wants to wack him up. Its OTHER PEOPLE aka alot = scary. personal health and security at risk! note*(other ppl = 2)

Carl : i also dunno y u so free and think i so big anws, but nvm, have a good time

Lagos. Carl counterargues. He shows us why we are wrong to think that he is so free and big. Ethos. The idea of having a good time. sincer well wishes to send us away.

Carl : but then i no insurance how
Carl : u protect me from not getting hurt right? very reliable ah

Pathos. Asking for sympathy. Asking for insurance on protecting him from getting hurt.
Lagos. Logic. That no one is able to protect him from getting hurt. No one is actually very reliable.

Carl : i haven forgotten u were stripping me last yr

Lagos. Logic. The person asking him to go back to RI is actually the one who was stripping him last year. Why the hell shd he go back?

carl : if but it werent for chandy

Ethos. The spirit of chady still resides amongst us.

carl: but its hard for me to like remembering that, especially since i was rather unhappily ejected out of the school
Carl : everyone except me.ok.

Pathos. Appealing to sympathy. He didn't have fun and was EJECTED out of school unhappily.
Lagos. Since he was EJECTED unhappily out of school, he didn't have fun.
Ethos. Fun = happinness.
Lagos. No fun = no happiness, therefore not coming back cause he was ejected.

Therefore, he has counteract all of melvin's arguments.
We see here now how carl yan has successfully employed the techniques of pathos, ethos and lagos to successfully pursuade us, to tell his story as well as to chat a powerful emotional convicing piece of em chat log.
Therefore, we should all learn from the good points. We should learn how to employ such powerful techniques from carl yan, from the masters of english from ACSIB.
That is all, for the GP lesson, given by none other than our master CARL YAN!

*note* We have not learnt circular arguments.
